March 20, 2014 Minutes

Mike Keeler opened the meeting at 7:05 and reviewed the agenda

John Cherry read the minutes. Motion to approve the minutes was accepted and approved, with one correction.

Sherry Hayden presented the Treasurers’ reports for March. A motion to approve the reports was made and seconded. The motion passed.

 

Neighborhood Party – Mike Keeler

  • On May 10th there will be a neighborhood party outside the mini-station
  • Money is from extra money from tree-planting grant to be utilized for a celebration with volunteers, only 2 volunteers in tree planting this year and they would like to share the celebration with everyone

 

Beautification Committee – Jennifer Burnett

  • Saturday April 19th at 9am, first clean-up
  • No experience is necessary, none of your own equipment is necessary

Real Estate Report – Mark Fisher

  • Active for sale – 20, reduction by half since last year at this time, good for neighborhood
  • Distressed home sales are down, which is good
  • Pending sales show fewer distressed sales too
  • Sold prices are going up

 

Website Report – Stef Diana

  • Talked about the work of the committee so far including the brochure
  • Showed the current website and the new draft
  • Asked for folks to write short testimonials about why they love their neighborhood

 

Flint Water – Jeff Wright

  • Discussed KWA, the reasons for formation
  • Discussed financials and the fact that KWA only brings raw water to the counties
  • Provided information on the work that is currently happening

 

Neighborhood Watch – Mike Herriman

  • We are working with Mott Park and the Potter-Longway Neighborhood to provide assistance in upgrading their neighborhood watch programs
  • Crime has decreased greatly lately

 

City Council Update – Monica Galloway, Josh Freeman

  • Emergency Manager has started the process of re-engaging with the City council and mayor on running the city
  • There are seven benchmarks that need to occur for the emergency manager to recommend the appointment of a transition advisory board

 

Flint Blight Coordinator – Raul Garcia

  • Discussed the resolution at 801 Meade
  • He can ensure that rentals are registered, so you can contact him if you live close to a rental rgarcia@cityofflint.com 810-237-2090
  • There will be a pickup of branches taken down in the ice storm
  • On the 31st of March compost will start to be picked up

 

Announcements

  • There is a meeting in Otisville tomorrow night about fracking
  • Last Saturday in April – April 26 at Vietnam Vets memorial park is first Flint River Cleanup
